Category: How do i keep my website content from moving during zoom

Hello, im new to web development and i watched tutorials on YouTube and read some articles online about HTML and CSS however when i began designing my website i came across a problem which i cant seem to find help for online that would make me understand this better.

So how can i make it so that the contents always stay in one place no matter the screen size or the zoom size. The most obvious question is did any of those tutorials or videos include a treatise about coding responsive web design?

Tutorials and YouTube videos are not formal, full bodied courses. You would benefit greatly from taking a formal class in HTML and CSS and thereby learn the basics of many of the elements of web design.

Your basic premise of wanting the layout to look the same on all devices, large and small, is your greatest flaw right now. For all practical purposes, it is not a reasonable expectation unless your site is no wider than px on all screens. Do you know the difference between block and inline or inline-block elements?

For one thing, block elements will extend to the full width of the available space. No width is needed for it to extend to the full width of the window. It can never become narrow enough to fit in the window of a smartphone without generating a wide horizontal scrollbar; and.

Normally, content dictates the height so it can freely extend taller at narrow widths. The liberal use of IDs instead of classes is another troublesome practice for reasons of specificity. Have you studied specificity? I strongly recommend that you take a formal course from start to finish, do not selectively skip chapters that do not interest you, and work all of the exercises. Do be careful where you learn from. These days absolutely anyone can create a tutorial on a website or Youtube, but that does not necessarily mean that person knows what they are doing or are an authority on the subject, they could be as clueless as anyone.

Books may be old-fashioned, but to become a published author does require more credentials than a bit of misguided self-belief and an internet connection.

That is not to say all on-line resources are bad, there is some good stuff out there, but it can be difficult for the beginner to distinguish the wheat from the chaff.

Without closely studying the code, just a quick scan, I can see this code is very dated and does not follow best practice on many levels, or attempt any from of responsive design.Learn Development at Frontend Masters. The zoom property in CSS allows you to scale your content. It is non-standard, and was originally implemented only in Internet Explorer. Zoom is an old IE thing. If you want to scale content, use CSS Transforms. You can also use filters if you need oldIE support. Back in the days of IE6, zoom was used primarily as a hack.

Many of the rendering bugs in both IE6 and IE7 could be fixed using zoom. Setting zoom: 1 fixed the problem. The bug had to do with how IE rendered its layout. Setting zoom: 1 turned on an internal property called hasLayoutwhich fixed the problem. Safari also supports zoom since version 4. However, it added a new value: reset. That tells the browser not to zoom your element on zoom. Frontend Masters is the best place to get it.

Well actually Vikram its a wrong place to ask this question you can ask it on forum : but well regarding your solution, its good to use positioning to the div and drop it over the image, give image a z-index value less then the z-index value of div and the div will be shown on the top of the moving banner :.

Ah sorry i meant vise-verse with the z-index : Give z-index value higher in image then the div. You can put it on the html element and control it through JavaScript.

It does not work on IE or Firefox. That being said, however, I use it sparingly when converting websites to mobile. Why would it be okay in mobile? Because the two most popular browsers on mobile support it Chrome and Safari. But again, if you can do just avoid using it.

Use it in the lower scale section where you know that the screen is mobile size only something like media.

This is an important accessibility feature, which is often used not only by people with vision impairments, but also by users that, for different reasons, need to see the page smaller or larger.

It will not ruin the page accessibility but will leave a feeling that the UI is not structured very well. These two ASP. NET AJAX controls are based on a table layout and background image sprites, which causes more visual glitches than simpler, modern layouts when the browser is zoomed, so I will be using them as an example:.

This happens because the background image is rasterized and, when zoomed, it cannot stretch evenly with the other parts of the page. I will not fall into mathematical explanations why this happens, because what is more important is the simple fact that we have to deal with it. This zooming problem can be seen in a lot of pages all over the Internet and we have often been asked for a way around it. If there was one, we would, there is no question about that.

Well, there are a few neat tricks, and if you want to play we could give you some good ideas. In the pre-CSS3 era it was a real pain for the Front-End developers to create funky, nice looking layouts with rounded corners and shadows, as it required a lot of extra HTML, fiddling with many CSS properties and background images.

To make things worse - this does not really increase the usability and accessibility of the page. With that history lesson done, you could ask why we are still using such old and heavy rendering. The answer is very simple, yet very uncompromising — cross-browser compatibility.

Luckily, CSS3 came and since March when Internet Explorer 9 was released we could say that all major browsers support at least the most common CSS3 properties - border-radius and box-shadow.

If only we could take advantage of them in all cases…. Actually, with Q2, we released the ASP. This makes the control really light and simple, because the background images are reduced to the sanitary minimum. Of course, Internet Explorer users will not see shadows and rounded corners, but this will not be too problematic as this is just a visual improvement and not functional.

You may have also noticed how nicely it zooms in the screenshots above. With a few lines we could remove the background image sprite from RadDock and then by using CSS3 we can add rounded corners and even shadows, which actually are not part of the original. I love to use CSS3, so it was really fun to rework a little the control. The quirky bit in this case is that when border-collapse is set to collapse, the border-radius property will not work properly in IE9. So, it was necessary to set the border-collapse to separate and border-spacing to 0 to reduce the cell spacing.

Originally, background images actually a sprite are used to visualize borders and now we have a real CSS border applied to the wrapping table element, so we have actually increased the real height with two pixels. You can even download the simple page we used to generate the screenshots - just click here. As you can see, not all issues were resolved, e. Taking advantage of the latest technologies is always cool and we would do it, if we could. Support for old browsers still has very high priority and we cannot simply abandon them.

I need to create a nav bar which does not move about when resizing the browser with 8 tabs, with the last 3 being drop down lists. You have elements in your code that are set to absolute positioning.

Eurovan engine rebuild cost

That's fine, but you also have to set a parent container to a position other than their default of static. So, this is what i usally do. While i'm not the greatest at designing, I lay out all of my HTML elements and let the natural layout flow occur first.

Then, if you have certain elements, like icons and images that you need to place in a certain location, then …. The element is set absolute relative to a parent container that has a position property set to something other than static, like relative or aboslute also.

A quick fix would be to set the container div to position:relative. Then the absolute positioning of these interior divs would be absolute in relation to the conainter div, not the body element.

When I add position: relative to the container div, the divs contained in the header no longer move out of the header div. However, the divs within the header are stuck to the right side now. Would adding the absolute positioning of interior divs sort this out and if so, which interior divs should the absolute positioning be added to?

Then, if you have certain elements, like icons and images that you need to place in a certain location, then consider absolute positioning. Hi, How do you stop divs from moving all over the place when you zoom in and out of browsers?

The website I am going to create has to be centered in the middle of the webpage. I then need a left sidebar, main content area and right sidebar and a footer below these. Thanks for any help.
